Making biscuits since 1991, Biscuit Company of Fiji has made its FMF Breakfast Cracker a national icon as well as a major success story for FMF. Biscuits made here are now being shipped to more than 20 countries including Australia, New Zealand, USA, Tahiti, Samoa and other Pacific islands. The company employs more than 200 people operating automated ovens in three shifts, six days a week.
It all began as only a small bakery within the flour mill with just one oven to produce Fiji’s famous Breakfast Crackers. Within two years the crackers had become so popular they were being exported to Pacific Island countries, along with cabin bread. By 1996 FMF launched a series of cookies. Now everyone has a favorite – wheat germ, coconut, peanut, choc chip or cherry and of course Kidz cookies for the little ones.
With increasing local and export demand, the Biscuit Company set up a new production facility of its own with the nation's first continuous, automatic biscuit baking oven to produce crackers, Milk Arrowroot biscuits, Scotch Fingers and even chocolate coated biscuits. In 2004 the company bought out Australia’s Fine Fare brand and added a range of cream biscuits, followed by chocolate biscuits in 2006. The varieties of biscuits produced in this factory today are vast and fascinating.
To get to this point where the company produces biscuits for markets in developed countries such as Australia and New Zealand has taken serious investment in staff development and technical programs to improve skills and maintain high quality products. It’s the quality that leads the phenomenal export growth of the company.
