$85,000 of food rations for flood-affected families
MORE than 6000 households affected by the flood crisis in the west will receive food rations worth $85,000 supplied by the Korean government.
Commissioner Western Commander Joeli Cawaki was presented with the food items on Monday in a handover ceremony at the FMF Foods Ltd in Suva.
"A total of 6737 households will receive the rations as the floods have drastically affected food security in the division," he said, adding that a distribution schedule had been planned.
Cdr Cawaki urged Westerners to notify their divisional officers and register their names in order to receive the food items.
Korean Ambassador Hae-wook Cheong conveyed his sympathy to the people affected by the floods.
"I believe that it is not the scale of relief goods that encourages the adversely affected people, it is caring minds and helping hands that instil hope and fortitude to overcome such ordeals," Mr Cheong said.
Cdr Cawaki said the division had received almost $200,000 worth of relief assistance since the flood.
